What happens if you press No on a Will You Be My Valentine link?

Nothing that counts as a no. On a free MyValentine card the No button jumps out of the way. When you tap it, it changes what it says and shrinks, while Yes gets bigger. The card only moves on when you tap Yes. It's a joke built into the card. If you want to give a real answer, send one back with a free reply link from myvalentine.to/response.

What does the No button actually do?

On a computer, No moves as soon as your cursor reaches it. On a phone, it moves every time you tap it.

Each tap also changes the label. You'll see lines like "Are you sure?", "Really sure?", "Error 404: No not found" and "Last chance..." as you keep going.

Yes grows every time you tap No, and No gets smaller. After a handful of taps, Yes is huge. Under the buttons the card says "Don't even try to say no."

You can keep chasing it for as long as you like. The card won't finish on No.

Did I just say yes by accident?

Only on the card. Tapping Yes plays a short celebration and the page ends there.

On a free card, MyValentine doesn't tell the person who sent it what you tapped. So a Yes on a free card becomes your answer when you tell them, and not before.

Will they know I pressed No?

It depends on which kind of link you got. Check the address.

The link looks likeWhat the sender sees
myvalentine.to/yourname (free card)Nothing about your taps. Free cards don't report back.
myvalentine.to/v/ and a short code (custom letter)Whether it was opened, whether you tapped Yes, and how many times you tapped No. This is in the MyValentine privacy notice.

So if someone made you a custom letter and you tap No ten times for fun, they'll see the count. Read what MyValentine shares with the sender.

Why is the No button built like that?

It's the gag. A card that won't take no for an answer is the whole point, and you'll find the same running No on other Will You Be My Valentine sites.

It also means the card can't give your answer for you. That part is still yours.

How do I actually say yes or no?

Send a reply link:

  1. Open myvalentine.to/response.
  2. Type your name and theirs.
  3. Pick a message. Yes options include "Of course!" and "I thought you'd never ask!". No options include "Maybe next time", "I'm flattered but no" and "Let's just be friends".
  4. Copy the link and send it in the same chat they used.

They tap to reveal it and see your answer with your name on it. You don't need an account.

A plain text reply works too. The reply link just answers in the same format they asked in.

Send your real answer

I sent the link. Is it unfair that they can't press No?

As a joke between people who'll laugh at it, it's fine. Just don't count a Yes tapped on the card as their real answer. If you want to know, ask them, or point them to the free reply page so they can send you a proper yes or no.

Want to ask someone yourself? You can make a free Will You Be My Valentine link on the MyValentine homepage.

Questions

Can the person who made the link switch the moving No off?

No. The moving No is part of every MyValentine Yes or No card.

Can I open the card again?

Yes. Open the same link and it starts from the beginning.

Does pressing No on a free card send anything to the sender?

No. Free name cards don't record taps. Only custom letters show the sender what was tapped.
